Across 27 hectares spread over eight villages and 32 appellations, the Clair family cultivates a mosaic of terroirs stretching from the north of the Côte de Nuits to the north of the Côte de Beaune, from the modest Bourgogne Aligoté to the grand crus Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Bonnes-Mares and Corton-Charlemagne.

The Domaine Bruno Clair was founded in 1979 and is located in Marsannay la Côte, just north of Gevrey Chambertin in Burgundy, in the famous Côte de Nuits. It is an exclusively family-run estate covering 25 hectares today, directed by Bruno Clair. The son and grandson of a winemaker, the Clair name was already well known in Burgundy, but it was after the death of Joseph, his grandfather, that the Domaine Bruno Clair truly came into its own in 1986, through the inheritance of his grandfather's vines, following the dismantling of the Domaine Clair Daü. With vines spread across 7 villages and 28 appellations, including Marsannay, Fixin, Gevrey Chambertin, Aloxe Corton, Morey St Denis, Chambolle Musigny, Vosne Romanée, Pernand Vergelesses) the Domaine Bruno Clair offers a wide range of white Burgundy and red Burgundy wines comprising 3 Grands Crus (Bonnes Mares, Chambertin Clos de Bèze and Corton Charlemagne), 4 Premiers Crus from Gevrey Chambertin (1er Cru Clos du Fonteny, 1er Cru les Cazetiers, 1er Cru Clos St Jacques and 1er Cru Petite Chapelle) and 2 Premiers Crus from Savigny les Beaune (1er Cru les Jarrons and 1er Cru la Dominode). Respect for the soils has always been a major concern at the Domaine Bruno Clair and the winemaking is based on a quest for the expression of each terroir, while prioritising finesse. The considerable size of the Bruno Clair estate and above all a number of sumptuous plots such as the famous Chambertin Clos de Bèze or the most illustrious of the 1er Cru from Gevrey, the Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St Jacques, or indeed the Bourgogne Grand Cru Bonnes Mares from Morey Saint Denis, allow the estate to shine at the very top, thanks to such labels, which contribute greatly to the renown of the finest wines of the Côte de Nuits. In terms of the vines, selection is strict and Bruno Clair takes care to propagate his future pinot noir and chardonnay plants through a rigorous mass selection process. In the winery, partial destemming is practised, followed by slow fermentations at low temperature, triggered naturally by indigenous yeasts. Ageing lasts from 16 to 22 months on fine lees, with 20 to 50% new oak. It should be noted that the best vintages in red across these appellations are 2015, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2005. The wines produced by the Domaine Bruno Clair are precise, intense, elegant, with great length and finesse. Their ageing potential is significant, and it is strongly advised to wait at least 10 years for the 3 Grands Crus and the famous Gevrey Chambertin Clos St Jacques in order to fully enjoy the entire evolutionary potential of these bottles. Their complexity will only be enhanced by this, and the lover of great wines from the Côte de Nuits will be fully rewarded when tasting these bottles.
