Françoise Bedel

An inconic family estate in bio-dynamics

After training in viticulture, Françoise Bedel took over part of this family estate in Champagne in 1979. Initially run by her parents, Fernand and Marie-Louise Bedel, since the 1950s, the Françoise Bedel & Fils estate is located in the late Marne Valley between Château-Thierry and Ferté sous Jouarre.
In 1999, Françoise Bedel decided to convert the entire estate to biodynamics. Not always well understood at the time in Champagne, this conversion to biodynamics marks a turning point for the estate. Francoise Bedel is one of the forerunners of biodynamics, joined by her son in 2003, the Françoise Bedel et Fils estate has not stopped advancing its wines.

Les autres producteurs

The vineyard of more than 8 hectares extends over the municipalities of Crouttes-sur-Marne, Nanteuil-sur-Marne, Charly-sur-Marne and Villiers-Saint-Denis. The vines rest on clay-limestone and limestone loam soils. The three representative grape varieties of Champagne are present: especially Pinot Meunier with 78%, 13% Chardonnay and 9% Pinot Noir. The wines are aged in barrels in part to reinforce the aromatic complexity and in enamelled cuvée to preserve the purity of the wines.

Certain cuvees are closed using  traditional cork for fermentation in the bottle, which allows slight oxidation during aging on racks. The wines undergo long ageing on racks (at least 5 years on most of the cuvees) and the sparkling fruitiness and volume Pinot meunier supports and requires very low dosages (1 to 3 g / l in general). The vintages, the l Originelle extra brut express citrus aromas and a nice freshness on the palate.

The Dis Vin Secret cuvee is more generous with a rounder nose which gives off more vinosity. The Entre Ciel et Terre cuvee reveals great purity and minerality. The mouth is remarkable and saline on the finish.

Last but not least, the Ame de la Terre cuvee has great potential. This cuvee is of an extraordinary aromatic complexity, suave and powerful with a very nice balance.
