The Domaine Denis Bachelet, of modest size (less than 4 hectares of vineyard), is located in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy. For about forty years, Denis Bachelet has presided over the destiny of the estate, whose international reputation is very well established. In fact, due to its low production — always in high demand for export — Domaine Denis Bachelet is one of the star estates of Gevrey-Chambertin, with an immense international reputation; much like the Dugat-Py estate, the majority of Domaine Denis Bachelet's vineyard is made up of very old vines, sometimes a century old, which allow the wines to deliver that extra dimension of soul that can sometimes be lacking in certain estates.

The renowned international critic Clive Coates described Denis Bachelet's wines as great concentrated wines, harmonious, restrained and pure, of rare intensity, great elegance and subtlety. At the domaine, Denis Bachelet is assisted by his son Nicolas Bachelet, and the winemaking methods, which involve less frequent punch-downs focusing above all on finesse, and are underscored by consistently subtle aging, have allowed the wines to be approachable earlier than in the past. The range of cuvées comprises a red Burgundy, the Côtes de Nuits Villages, the Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, the Gevrey-Chambertin "Les Evocelles", the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Corbeaux and a sumptuous Charmes-Chambertin on the Burgundy Grand Cru side. It is fair to say that the wines of Domaine Denis Bachelet can be enjoyed young, on the fruit, yet it is advisable to wait 7 to 10 years in order to better appreciate their true ageing potential (particularly given the rarity of the bottles). Since it is difficult to source wines from Domaine Denis Bachelet in France — as the majority of production is exported internationally — do not miss the latest vintages, including the magnificent 2018! Crafted without artifice, the Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes, with its majestic nose of raspberry and dark fruits, already offers a glimpse of the fullness, complexity and silkiness of the domaine's wines (cellar for 6 to 8 years). The Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru Les Corbeaux, with its creamy raspberry nose and delicate hint of sandalwood, is highly elegant, subtle and charming. As for the Charmes-Chambertin, its power, its textbook balance and the intensity of its finish make it a very great wine for ageing, to be sought out by all lovers of Burgundy. It should be noted that the finest red vintages for these appellations are 2015, 2012, 2010, 2009, 2005. The only regret is the rarity of production on the French market, so whenever bottles from Domaine Denis Bachelet are available, do not hesitate to seize the opportunity.
